Drakelow Tunnels

Drakelow Tunnels are a former underground military complex beneath the Kingsford Country Park north of Kidderminster, Worcestershire. Covering 250,000 sq ft (23,000 m2), with a total length of around 3.5 miles (5.6 km),they were originally built as a Second World War factory, for the Rover car company, who were at the time, manufacturing engines for the Bristol Aeroplane Company.

On the morning of 27 November 2013, a warrant was executed on the premises under the Misuse of Drugs Act by West Mercia Police. Involving some 30 officers, the operation resulted in the seizure of over 400 cannabis plants, valued at around £650,000. An arrest was made in nearby Kidderminster.

The Investigation

Right from the outset, this investigation was going to be intriguing.

Before leaving for the hour and half journey to Drakelow Tunnels, one of our investigators had fully charged the battery to his mobile phone. Forty five minutes into the journey the battery had completely discharged!

Whilst setting up, another team members bracelet fell off, for no apparent reason. Admittedly, it had been repaired about 4 weeks previously, but had survived snagging on clothing and being slipped over the hand. It was impossible to fix it on site.

On reviewing evidence it was found that 3 out of 4 EVP recorders had failed to work. Two of these recorders have never caused us any problems in the past.

Paranormal or just coincidence?

Below is another example of intriguing “orbs”. In the photograph on the left you can see a faint white dot (circled), is clearly

gone in the photograph on the right. Further below is a close

up of that light anomaly.

Here at Mystical Shires, we are very sceptical about “orbs”.

We believe that a lot of “orbs” can be credited to dust, moisture or flying insects, however, there are few that catch our attention.

Here are some of what we are talking about, from our investigation.

The “orbs” that catch our attention are generally brighter than most. Here, in the photograph on the right, you can see there are many “orbs”, however, the one circled is brighter. Below is that same “orb”, you can see that it has an outer ring and an inner core. Below again is one of the other “orbs” and you can clearly see it has more of a “dandelion head” form to it.

It is also important to know where the rest of your team

are, and what they are doing. In the photograph on the

right, you can see our investigator sitting down, and aroundthe corner,it would appear that “someone else” is having a seat. However, when you realise that there are two team

member sat on the opposite side of the tunnel with a torchon, it is clear that that “someone” is just the torch beam.

Olympus VG-120 using the flash.

We also captured some unexplainable video and audio. However, on reviewing the evidence it was found that 3 out of 4 EVP recorders had failed to work. Two of these recorders have never caused us any problems in the past. All the video footage was taken using a Sony Handycam DCR-HC51E, again, never any problem in the past.

In this video clip, there are three of our investigators in this area. You will hear one of them ask out for any spirits to say “hello” into any of the recording equipment, then you hear a “hello” and then the other two members of the team start to whisper. If you then listen to the EVP recording below you do not hear the “hello”.
