Pub Investigation #1

Our first investigation of 2016, took us to a former 17th Century Cider House, now a very popular pub in Somerset.

Three former miner's cottages have been knocked into this very quaint English pub.

We faced some technical issues at this location. Two video cameras failed to record anything (this was later found to be human error) one voice recorder failed to record anything (we are not sure if this was a fault with the equipment or not).

We also linked a Sony Mini DV camera to a laptop, unfortunately the recording on the laptop only lasted for 5 ½ minutes with no sound. However, we did manage to record just over an hour on the Mini DV tape, but this had no sound either.

These technical issues have now been addressed, so that we have full video and audio coverage in the future.

All that said about the technical issues, we have found some unexplainable video evidence.

The video clip on the left had us puzzled for a while. You can see a bright white light in the middle of the shot that appears to fade and then grows bright again. When we watched the complete video there was no consistent timing to it which made us wonder what it was. It was only until we showed the evidence to the landlord & landlady that it became clear what it was. The till behind the bar has a white light behind it that fades and glows irregularly. So not paranormal!!

In the clip to the right, the camera is set up at a slight angle facing the main double doors leading into the pub. You can see, on the right the open door to the Gents toilet, just out of view of the camera (but on the same wall) is the door to the Ladies toilet. Behind the camera is the door leading from the kitchen area and on the left wall opposite the Gents toilet is a door leading into the main bar area (with a window in it) this is where the team were.

As you watch the clip, you will see that there is no visible light (from torches or wall/ceiling lights) shining on the wall opposite (the whole

pub was in total darkness) the IR lights from the cameras set up in the main bar area were facing away from the door.

The UV light illuminating the area is attached under the camera and facing the same way as you are viewing. But the shadow appears on the right hand wall??

In this clip on the left you can see one of our investigators, just above her head is a wall light fitting, you should be able to see a very quick and small flash. We say should as when we first saw it it was obvious, but when we showed the landlord & landlady it could not be seen? Whether it is to do with the computer screen or not we do not know, but there is definitely a flash on the wall light. There has been some debate as to whether or not it is a static discharge, but in a quite pub that slight sound would have been heard by our investigator under that light.

Our final clip is in the same area a few minutes later and shows a light anomaly on the right-hand side come across the table and down the back of the chair. As it goes down the back of the chair you can see how it reflects light from the varnish on the chair and appears brighter before disappearing.

We would like to thank the landlady & landlord of this pub for allowing us the couple of hours investigation time, and look forward to returning in the future and hopefully gather more evidence without having our “technical issues”.
